BlueBonnet Evening Primrose Oil
BlueBonnet urges customers to ‘dive into good health’ in their company’s video featured on their website. When it comes to their Evening Primrose Oil, BlueBonnet promises customers that it will support heart health, skin health, joint mobility, brain health and mood. We examined labels and perused customer reviews in order to compile a comprehensive report on this product.
While this company actually sells two different versions of this bottle, we focused on the product that contains a higher dose of Evening Primrose Oil. Continue reading this review to see if this is the Evening Primrose Oil supplement choice for you.
Is BlueBonnet Evening Primrose Oil Effective?
We were pleased to note that the BlueBonnet Evening Primrose Oil is naturally squeezed from the Evening Primrose seed by cold pressing. This ensures that the extraction process is free of heat, solvents or chemicals. This is a positive basis with which to formulate an Evening Primrose Oil and one that we expect to be promoted by all supplement brands.
The next aspect we would expect to see would be a strong dose of Evening Primrose Oil. This product does have a hefty serving of 1300mg, however, we have seen products that contain more. In fact, this dose is almost only half of the dose that is offered in our Editor’s Choice product. This is important to keep in mind as you would need to take double the amount of this product which would increase your monthly costs considerably.
We looked at the standardization of GLA found in BlueBonnet Evening Primrose Oil and found it to be 10% which is the maximum amount possible. Additionally, this product is encapsulated in softgels to ensure proper absorption into the body. Unfortunately, there are no customer reviews listed on BlueBonnet’s website. While we were unable to find any reviews on the website, Amazon showed very mixed reviews.
For those looking to purchase this product, BlueBonnet’s website will direct you to nearby locations. There is also the option of buying via third-party sites such as Amazon. Many times when manufacturers do not sell directly from their website, they also do not offer any kind of return policy and that is the case here, which is disappointing.
Is BlueBonnet Evening Primrose Oil Safe?
There are no mentioned side effects of taking this product. As with any new supplement or diet introduced into your daily life, we always advise talking to your healthcare professional about possible contraindications of any pre-existing medical conditions or medications that you are taking. Supplements work differently for everyone and the effects vary between individuals so it is always a good idea to run any health changes with a professional.
We noted that although the manufacturer states that this product has undergone third-party testing, there is no mention of the company that administered this testing.
Summary
BlueBonnet’s Evening Primrose Oil seems to be a quality product from a reputable company. We like that it is made with non-GMO ingredients and that it is free of gluten, dairy, corn, soy and nuts. In addition, we are pleased that it is cold-pressed for the purest oil extraction. However, it only contains 1300mg of Evening Primrose Oil. This is a lower dose than we have seen in other products. So while it is standardized to 10% GLA, the amount of GLA is significantly lower than other products because it is 10% of a lower dose of Evening Primrose Oil. As a result, consumers may not get the health benefits they desire. It was not surprising that many customer reviews reported that they did not notice a difference when using this supplement. While some did find this product to be helpful with hot flashes, a large number of reviewers said their bottles arrived smelling rancid and they couldn’t even try them. Future customers should be warned that there is no return policy or money-back guarantee if this product does not work for them.
